Various shades of blue-grey create delightful patterns on this eye-catching design by Dave Greer. This cream-painted home is given a fresh and fun feel with a pear-green door and striped awnings to match. Shutters painted the same yellow-green are another great way to incorporate this lively color.

Test out several swatches in various shades of white, and view them at different times of day (when the sun hits and when it doesn't) to see how the hue varies. Red is a striking exterior house color that works well on old-country style homes, craftsman, and rustic-style architecture. Warmer-toned reds work best as classic exterior colors and pair well with white or dark trim, depending on the shade. Taupe strikes a balance between mid to dark-toned grays and browns.
Agreeable Gray SW 7029, Sherwin-Williams
To help you with that, below we have a list of top Sherwin Williams paint colors. Making a color palette for a room is almost similar to selecting a color palette for the house except here you only have to consider decorating a single room instead of a whole house. It is very necessary to remember that it is your house and so you have the freedom to use any color any want, it should just suit your personality. If it is your bedroom choose colors that are restful and inspiring, if it is your hall or living area choose colors that are welcoming. The kitchen can be classic, modern, sophisticated, or anything you want. In this way, you can refer to the color wheel and make color schemes suiting the personality.

This favorite exterior paint color can play up the classic character of Colonial-style homes or nod to the sea and sky when used on coastal cottages. Mix it with bright yellow accents for an attention-grabbing combination. Black exteriors emerged as a major trend this year, and deep, saturated hues like Tricorn Black are beginning to rival classic whites and grays in popularity.

Orange is a warm and inviting color that adds something more to a basic bland color palette. By evaluating paint colors at different times of day, you’ll get a better sense of whether or not you’ll like them in the long run. Even a little cloud cover can completely change how a color looks, turning it from a nice sage green to more of a '70s avocado. That'll help you decide what exterior paint color combination works best for your style and home. Below, view some of our favorite exterior paint colors for inspiration. Cool colors bring a relaxed, calm, and peaceful atmosphere and include blue, purple, and green.
Exterior House Colors You’ll Love
We also love pairing Chantilly Lace with black hues for a classic black-and-white palette or incorporating wood elements for warmth. A medium gray such as Elephant Skin works on homes of all sizes and styles. This versatile neutral offers earthy warmth that plays well with cream accents and natural wood tones. For a surprising twist, pair it with a vivid front door; brights like teal and sky blue offer charming contrast.

It’s very subtle and light and beautiful (it was on every wall of our beach house). Benjamin Moore’s Balboa Mist (OC-27) is the 2nd lightest greige on this list with an LRV of 65 (Classic Gray is the lightest at 74). We considered Balboa Mist over Edgecomb Gray for our home and I think we would’ve been very happy with either. It is a smidge cooler too, so it could be a good alternative if you worry Edgecomb Gray is too beige for your liking. We first used Revere Pewter in a quick makeover of our old bathroom (above).
With an LRV of 84, Greek Villa is quite bright but has a softness to it as well. This warm off-white is a favorite of ours for traditional, transitional, and Mediterranean-style homes. Greek Villa is a great partner to other warm hues like Sherwin Williams’ Dorian Gray, used on the doors and shutters in the rendering above. Darker grieges like Sherwin Williams’ Urbane Bronze and Porpoise are smart color pairings, but, as demonstrated above, lighter hues work well too.
Use white on the trim and other exterior elements so the look is crisp and clean instead of one-note. Modernize a classic exterior with a dark gray paint color, and instead of creating contrast with light accents, keep the trim details and front door equally moody. Here, a deep blue paint color complements the charcoal facade and arched brick wall, echoing their cool tones while highlighting the beautiful detail work on the front door. Because it typically covers the most surface area, siding will often provide the foundation for your exterior color scheme. Consider the undertones of your siding color, and choose two or three other shades that complement the hue. The gray siding on this home, for example, has strong blue undertones, which are highlighted by the turquoise front door and patio furniture.
It was a little dark in that windowless room, so we preferred how it looked in our sunny foyer (below) where we painted it on the ceiling. That fact is actually a great example of how it is a chameleon color that shifts depending on other factors in a room. Ensuring that you have a suitable color scheme will help link one room to the other seamlessly.
It is truly a rich color that maintains its stylishness for its totally unique vibe. Warm yellows come in all different shades, like this pale yellow that looks like a comforting bowl of custard. The addition of the green door makes this cute home even more inviting.
When viewed side-by-side, Revere Pewter may look a bit browner, so Worldly Gray is a great option if you want to stay firmly on the “gray” side of things. Although we haven’t used Worldly Gray ourselves, we used a darker color on the same swatch (Anonymous SW 7046) on our old siding for a beautiful deep putty color. We first tried it out in our old bedroom (pictured at the top of this post) and loved it so much that we slowly repainted nearly half of our house Edgecomb Gray. Our dining room, office, hallway, foyer, and powder room were ALL EDGECOMB GRAY. We like that it perfectly straddles that gray / beige line, while being a bit lighter and brighter than Revere Pewter. Finding the perfect greige for your space can still be tough, even from this narrow list.
